BRAMBLE BAR – Creative & Complex Cocktails

CREATIVE & COMPLEX COCKTAILS

Bramble Bar has consistently been ranked as one of the top 50 bars in the world for the last few years. Having visited this bar on a couple of occasions, I can confirm that the reason this place is considered in the upper echelon of drinking establishments is not due to a swanky setting or trendy gimmick – rather because they serve up some of the most creative and complex cocktails you will ever taste.

Before I continue I must say that there are trendy ‘hidden’ cocktail bars, then there are actually hidden cocktail bars. Bramble Bar is firmly in the latter camp. This must have been the first bar I have visited where it took me a few minutes to find the actual entrance. At street level I saw no signage indicating where the bar was. Only after I descended down an iron black staircase did I see a small brass plaque mounted to the wall confirming that I was in the right spot.

So to the cocktails. The menu is skewed towards gin and whisky based cocktails, and each concoction is brilliantly balanced with quality spirits and bespoke syrups. A couple of the drinks that stood out for me was the Spectrum Stadium (Chivas Regal 12 Year Old Whisky, Pineapple Juice, Plum & Rosemary Syrup, Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice & Merlet Apricot Liqueur).

Also, The Beaumont (Diplomatico Reserva Rum, Homemade Mango & Cinnamon Syrup, Yellow Chartreuse & Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice) was a pleasure to drink. All the cocktails are expertly made by the highly talented bar staff and are priced between £6.50-£9.00. As with many of the top bars the drinks menu is always evolving, but I am certain there will be something that catches the eye.

The venue has a very rustic look with vintage furniture and seating. The exposed brick wall finish gives this place a shabby chic feel and the low lighting ties in with the clandestine nature of the bar. The setting is quite small and intimate, so I would recommend trying to book ahead or going closer to the 4pm opening time if you want to nab a table.

Bramble Bar is undoubtedly a great bar, but more importantly it consistently delivers excellent cocktails for its patrons.
