FANCIFUL COCKTAILS THAT WILL BE SURE TO IMPRESS.
To put it simply the Cocktail Trading Co is a quirky bar that serves incredible cocktails. This place is brought to you by the heavily experienced trio of Andy Milz, Olly Brading and Elliot Ball. Between these three there is enough cocktail knowledge to keep you happily drinking for the next 20 years.
The bar at the Cocktail Trading Company is comprehensively stocked and contains a vast amount of obscure alcohols and liquors from around the globe. They do the classics brilliantly well but their own concoctions are what you should be trying.
A couple highpoints included Royal Mail Air Aged Mail and Tom & Jerry – all of the cocktails are priced at a reasonably £9.50. The cocktails have a distinctive presentation style with some being quite outlandish. This matches the eccentric décor of the bar which has caricatures and paraphernalia adorning all the walls.
The Cocktail Trading Co also provide a cocktail masterclass for £35 per person, this is a 90-minute session that includes cocktail tasting and making. Myself and a few of my colleagues booked this and thought it was one of the better masterclasses available in the capital.
The class was very organic and was steered by our tastes and inquisitiveness. We sampled several cocktails and were even put behind the bar to make one of our own. The staff here are very knowledgeable and we were even told about the history of the word cocktail.
Apparently the word cocktail comes from horse racing when they used to cut the tails of horses that weren’t purebred. So these horses from mixed breeding backgrounds had tails that were cut short which looked like a cock’s tails to identify them. Not sure how true this theory is but was nice to hear during the masterclass.
Like many of the best cocktail bars this place is not the biggest space and has an intimate atmosphere. If you want a table you can try to book in advance, this excludes Friday and Saturday when it a first come first serve basis.
For me the Cocktail Trading Co is a must visit spot. This place serves fanciful cocktails that will be sure to impress anyone that is new to the venue. It is ideal for a few birthday drinks or to take your other half on date night – enjoy!
