A TREND SETTING GIN.
I first encountered Gin Mare about 6 years ago with some friends who were gin enthusiasts, they told me about this unusual Mediterranean botanical spirit that I had to try. After having a few sips, I soon realised what all the fuss was about. Gin Mare was like no other drink I had tasted at the time.
This Spanish gin is made with several interesting ingredients but the four that stand out are thyme, rosemary, basil and the Arbequina olive. These elements really give Gin Mare a distinctive savoury flavour. The well balanced herbal qualities make this one of the smoothest gins I have sampled.
The distillery is located in a small fishing village east of Barcelona. The concept behind Gin Mare was to uniquely encapsulate the flavours of the Mediterranean into a bottle of gin. With this in mind, they use high-quality produce from across the Mediterranean including basil from Italy, thyme from Greece, rosemary from Turkey and olives from Spain. Their expert handling of these somewhat temperamental ingredients is what helps to provide Gin Mare with its award winning flavour.
“THIS GIN IS IDEAL WITH A HIGH-QUALITY TONIC TO REALLY BRING OUT THE DISTINGUISHING FLAVOURS”
At the moment there is such a big boom happening with gins and from speaking to experts in the industry it seems this trend will not be slowing down in 2017. Increasingly we are seeing more sloe gins and flavoured gins hit the market. Many distilleries are jumping on the bandwagon without providing the same quality as the trend setters such as Gin Mare.
If you are looking to test out a new or different gin, then I would recommend first trying Gin Mare before you reach for some of the latest bottles on the shelf. This gin is ideal with a high-quality tonic to really bring out the distinguishing flavours, or if you prefer it is great to provide a twist to some classic cocktails.
