THE GEM OF OLD STREET.
Unassuming from the outside this is emphatically the gem of Old Street and is always on my list of recommendations when friends come to visit London. I lived a 5-minute walk from Nightjar so have been there on numerous occasions and can honestly say it has never failed to impress.
This distinguished cocktail bar has a 1920’s prohibition theme and the modest entrance (which you might easily miss) stays true to the character of this place. Once there you will descend down a staircase and find yourself immersed in the strikingly appointed venue. Nightjar is the epitome of a classy, late-night drink spot.

Nightjar has a phenomenal range of cocktails grouped by era. This is a great place to try something different and experiment with new flavours. With what feels like a bespoke presentation style for each cocktail you can be sure that you will be enthralled on every visit. The prices are on the higher end of the scale, ranging from promotional cocktails at £8 up to the more premium tipples at £14. However, the whole experience is definitely worth the extra money.

The bar continues the 1920’s theme with a fitting jazz and blues soundtrack for you to enjoy in the background. At around 9.30 every night the bar will have a live performer, which for me really adds to the spectacle of this speakeasy. If you do stay to enjoy the music then there will be a £5 music charge per person Mon-Thurs and this goes up to £8 on Fri/Sat.

One thing I must mention is that the staff at Nightjar are some of the best trained and most hospitable you will get in any bar in the capital. This begins with the approachable door staff, which is not always the case in well-known establishments in the city. Through to the smooth service team that personally cater to any questions, and the first class bartenders that will ably attend to any requests you might have.
For me, Nightjar is the blueprint on how a speakeasy should look and make you feel. With a dramatically distinctive cocktail list this place remains as one of the best bars in London. Nightjar is the ideal setting if you’re looking for somewhere to go for a fancy date. With an intimate atmosphere and amazing drinks it’s sure to leave an impression on anyone you take.
