HIDDEN SEAFOOD SPECIALIST.
Situated on the outer rim of Spitalfields Market nestled between the high-fashion stores, premium cheese outlets and hair salons is this hidden seafood specialist.
The whole restaurant revolves around a central bar where busy chefs tend to diners. Staff will be topping up drinks, offering advice, chopping ice and preparing seafood platters to be served. Along the side of this central hub is a large white marble bar where you can sit on the leather-bound stools and dine. This can be a great spot to watch all the action as you eat. Alternatively, there are also raised seated areas or classic booths for larger groups wishing for more privacy.
The combination of the low lighting that surrounds the central marble bar, green tiling and subtle nautical themed décor really offers a pleasant atmosphere to enjoy the excellent food.
On the adjacent side of the bar are numerous dark blue water tanks filled with the different crustaceans on offer, the most impressive being the Giant Alaskan Sea Crabs. In terms of pricing, Seafood Platters start from £29.50, Oysters at £9 for 3 and Shellfish from £5 upwards. Although I would recommend speaking with the staff who are more than happy to help you tailor a platter based on what you like and your price point.
Cooked main meals are priced from £17-29 which include the catch of the day as well a number of other interesting dishes. I would also advise ordering a side or two to go with your main dish.
Prior to the meal, I would highly recommend trying out one of the cocktails. The cocktail menu is plentiful and you can move swiftly on to their extensive wine selection to have with your meal if you are in the mood. For myself personally, it has to be a crisp and fresh white to compliment the succulent seafood, or of course a bottle of the £310 Salon Grand Cru champagne – either will suffice.
It is also worth noting that for those around the area who would like a quick catch up with a friend or would simply like to try the restaurant, they offer single oysters for £1 between 3pm-6pm. This place definitely has my stamp of approval.
